Building Monarch Ranch

The idea of Monarch ranch was born many years ago. Only then, it wasn't called Monarch Ranch. All of the friends used to sit around talking about how great it would be to have our own compound,a la the Kennedy's. We would each have our individual houses, but we would share a common property.Our children would grow up together, and have a great life.

Then, one day, while looking through a DreamHomes magazine, I found the castle. It was the perfect compound for us. Perfect except for one thing, it cost 2.5 million dollars. Since we would never be able to afford that, we came up with the idea of turning the main castle into a bed and breakfast. We decided that with all the hotel experience between us, that would be the perfect joint venture.

And this began our dream. We chose the name Monarch Ranch because we wanted a name symbolic of our history together. The Ranch part was easy. All of us always knew we wanted to live on a ranch. We all have a bit of the 1800's in us. But what to put in front of it was a different story. Originally, we had chosen La Mesa Ranch, Which means, "the table" in spanish. But then we came up with Monarch. In elementary and middle school, we were the Monarchs. It also seemed more fitting for a castle. We also liked the idea of being able to use a butterfly as our symbol. The butterfly, like friendships, and life, is fragile, spirited, unpredictable, graceful, and most of all requires time and room to change and grow.

For now, Monarch Ranch is just a dream. Though the castle remains for sale, there is a lot of work to do before we can make our dream a reality (And lots of money to save!).
